Assessment Year 2021-22: Due Date of Income Tax Return Filing

The due date of filing your ITR is a date by which, the assessee can submit your Income Tax Return (ITR) without any late fee and penalty. In this post, we will know about the Due Date of Income Tax Return for AY 2021-22. If the assessee fails to submit an Income Tax Return till the due date then he will be liable to pay Interest and Penalty.

It is very important for all taxpayers to remember the due date of filing Income Tax Returns. For different taxpayers, the due date varies according to their status under the Income Tax Act. Here’s the Due Date of Income Tax Return for AY 2021-22 for different categories of taxpayers.

The last date of filing an income tax return for a person whose accounts are not required to be audited is 31st July of the assessment year and in case accounts are required to be audited the due date is 31st October of the assessment year.

Update- On 9th September 2021 vide circular no. 17/2021, the government has extended the last date of ITR for the non-audited assessee to 31st December 2021 and for the audited assessee to 15th February 2021.

Assessment Year- It is the year in which the income that one has earned in the financial year is evaluated.
