TAN Application Online- Procedure of online TAN application

TAN refers to the Tax Deduction Account Number or Tax Collection Account Number. It is a 10 digit alphanumeric number. It can be applied online or offline, the procedure for the new application of TAN is different in both cases but the documentation is the same. In this post, we will discuss the procedure to make the TAN application online.

A TAN application can easily be made by depositing form 49B at any of the TIN facilitation centers. Nowadays it is also become very easy and popular to apply for a TAN application online by way of an online application. Here are the complete steps for making a TAN application Online.

How to apply TAN online

Applicants need to follow the below mention steps-

Step 1- Visit the NSDL website or click here to visit.

Step 2- At the bottom go to apply for a new TAN and select from the dropdown ‘category of Deductors’

Step 3- On doing so the applicant is redirected to Form 49B.

Step 4- Fill in the given form.

Step 5- Click Submit

Step 6- On Confirmation, the acknowledgment screen is displayed which contains the following

  • 14-Digit acknowledgment number
  • Name of the applicant
  • Status of the applicant
  • Contact details
  • Payment Details
  • Space for Signature

Step 7- Save the acknowledgment and take a printout of it.

Step 8- The printout of the acknowledgment along with the other documents is required to be sent to NSDL address. (Address and documents details are given below in this post)

Fee for TAN Application

The processing fees for both the applicants, issuance of new TAN, and change/correction in TAN data is Rs. 65 (Rs. 55 application charges + 18% GST)

The payment of fee can be made by following modes-

  • Demand draft, (In favor of NSDL-TIN)
  • Cheque,
  • Credit Card/Debit Card,
  • Net Banking

Documents required for TAN application online

While applying for a new TAN, applicants are not required to submit any documents. The only thing they need to submit is the signed acknowledgment slip as described above.

TAN Application offline- How to make

If an applicant chooses offline mode, he is required to fill form 49B which can be download from the TIN website or you can download it from here.

Fill the form and deposit it with the nearest TAN center, pay the required fees.
