The Income Tax Department has launched a new Income Tax e-filing portal “www.incometax.gov.in“ on 7th June. It has replaced the old “www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in“ portal. The taxpayer will now have to file their Income Tax Return (ITRs) and do all other tax-related tasks through the new portal. However, since its launch, people are searching for whether “Income Tax Website Working Or Not”.
The taxpayers highly awaited the launch of the new e-filing portal on 7th June 2021 so that they could complete their tax-related work which was pending due to the covid pandemic. However, since its launch, the new e-filing portal has been prone to numerous glitches. These glitches have restricted the taxpayer and tax professionals from carrying out not only tax-related work but also many business transactions which is subject to tax compliance.
To discuss the issue of the new ITR e-filing portal, a meeting was held in the month of June 2021, between the senior officials of the Finance Ministry and Infosys, the vendor. The meeting was presided over by the Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman.
Even after 3 weeks of the meeting and over a month of the portal launch, users still continue to encounter multiple problems. like unable to file ITR, download intimation notice and many forms are not visible on the portal. In response to the glitches on the IT portal, Infosys said that “We are in our silent period. Clarity on the Income Tax matter was provided at our recently concluded AGM.”
New Income Tax Website Working Or Not
The New Income Tax Portal, launched by the Income Tax Department can be accessed at “www.incometax.gov.in“. However, while using the website the site stopped working temporarily, this is due to the extra traffic on the website and it may be some technical glitches on part of the developer of the website.
Also in many cases, OTP is not reaching the taxpayer for e-verification of ITR. In the e-proceeding tab, replies cannot be filed as OTP is not reaching the authorized representative. This is creating major problems as proceedings are getting time-barred. In cases where tax demands have been raised, there is no option to send a request for obtaining intimation u/s 143(1). The taxpayer is not able to file applications u/s 154 for rectification of mistakes as the tab is not available. The modification of master data of the taxpayer is having major issues and Form No. 3 (certificate of declaration) under Vivad se Vishwas Scheme is not visible on the portal.

In the meeting held on 22nd June, Infosys CEO said Salil Parekh and COO Pravin Rao along with other company officials took note of the issue highlighted by the stakeholders.
After the meeting, Income Tax Department issued a statement, “They informed that Infosys has been working to fix the technical issue noticing in the functioning of the portal and that they have augmented the resources for execution of the project on the hardware as well as the application side and that some of the issues have already been identified and fixed.”
